Remembering the Past

The BVMs have ministered in Holy Family Parish since 1925, staffing both schools for 82 years.  The Sisters who have served the parish during those years now number 189. Many of them  have died,  but the following Sisters who taught at Holy Family  High School are still with us, most of them retired and living at or near Mount Carmel, the BVM Motherhouse in Dubuque, Iowa: Sisters Grace Andrea Carolan, Frances Dolan (Franciscus), Sisters Eleanor (Marie) Craggs, Pauline Flosi, Realino Lynch, Margretine Smith, Kathryn Maher, Dolores  Kramer, Florence Wiatrak, Rosemary Sage, Jane McDonald (Bonaventure), Clemenza Finney, Eugena Sullivan. Isabelle Hennessey (Vaune) lives at Wright Hall in Chicago.  Sister Diane Barabe lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sisters Marilyn Wilson and Elizabeth Avalos in Sunnyvale, California, and Sister Annette Petty in Fawnskin, California.  Former teachers living at Holy Family Convent are Sisters Suzanne and Mary Jeanne Stopper and Sister Vicki Smurlo. With great joy and gratitude, we express our appreciation to all the Sisters as well as the many lay teachers who have shared their time and talents with the thousands of students who attended Holy Family Grade and High Schools since 1925.

Elizabeth Mullen ’81 Honored

Elizabeth Mullen, Class of 1981, will receive the "Companions on the Journey Award" at the Opening Session of Youth Day at the Anaheim Convention Center on Thursday, February 28, 2008.  Elizabeth is one of six adults to receive this year's award which is the highest recognition that a diocese may confer on adults who demonstrate excellence in ministry with young people.  She was chosen because of her outstanding work in several areas: LaSalle High School, Pasadena, as part of the Christian Leadership Institute offered by the Archdiocese, for her support of youth ministry at the parish and diocesan levels and for her years of leadership within the community of ministers that work with young people.
Congratulations, Elizabeth, for your outstanding service on behalf of youth!  Holy Family High School College Preparatory is proud of you.
